Are electronics a distraction to education?

In this generation computers, phone, television and many other electronic devices create larger distraction for students trying to do their homework. When you are sitting typing a paper a large majority of people will end up on Facebook for one reason or another. It is so hard to avoid the temptation of doing something even though you have a lot of work you should be doing. Although some might call this "switchtasking"its a form of distraction that you use to avoid doing work that should have possibly been done a week ago. Especially at college there are so many things to do, when you have so much work to do. While reading the article Growing Up Digital, Wired for Distraction it was said that "On YouTube, “you can get a whole story in six minutes,” he explains. “A book takes so long. I prefer the immediate gratification.”" This is about a boy who was going into his senior year and had yet to do his summer reading.  He choose to listen to a six minute explanation of the book. But, with the computer right there in front of you knowing that there is a easier way then reading to know what is occurring. This is causing  many to become lazy and unwilling to do their school work thinking that it will always be easy due to the excessive use of the internet. The internet is truly a large distraction to the education process due the the increase of laziness with in the society.
